Judicial Teamsters Local 320 is proud to represent approximately 900 members who work in Minnesota’s court system. Local 320 represents Attorneys and Support Staff employed by the State Board of Public Defense, Official Court Reporters, and First and Seventh Judicial District Clerical, Administrative and Technical Employees. Here are just a few ways members of Minnesota’s court system have benefited from Local 320 membership: Assistant Public Defenders Assistant Public Defenders represent indigent clients on all aspects of criminal cases, from misdemeanor driving charges through first-degree murder appellate cases. All Assistant Public Defenders are attorneys licensed to practice in Minnesota and routinely appear before district and appellate courts. The Attorneys voted overwhelmingly to join Local 320 in May, 1999, and have enjoyed significant gains in salaries, job security, and other terms and conditions of employment through Union membership. Public Defender Support Staff Public Defense Support Staff are investigators, paralegals, dispositional advisors, legal secretaries and office specialists who comprise the infrastructure of the Public Defense system. These dedicated professionals assist Attorneys with cases, including: investigation, legal research, case disposition, and secretarial duties to ensure that court cases are well prepared and clients are well represented. Like attorneys, support staff members gained significantly in their employment through Union membership. Official Court Reporters With Local 320 behind them, Official Court Reporters fought hard in the Minnesota Legislature during the 2000 session to win the right to form and join a Union. Their Employer, State Court Administration, had previously gotten legislation passed prohibiting them from doing so but Local 320 and the Court Reporters fought back and won! Now, thanks to their Union contracts, they have better, more uniform wages, as well as increased job security. Judicial District Administrative Staff The First and Seventh Judicial District Clerical, Administrative and Technical Employees merged on July 1, 2004 to become one bargaining unit. These Local 320 members work in District Court offices, assisting the public with case filings, fine collection, and working for judges inside the courtroom. These workers are at the core of the court system in Minnesota and work hard to make sure the public is well served in a professional and efficient manner when they need access to the courts. Assistant County Attorneys Assistant County Attorneys in Clay and Cass counties also are members of Local 320. The Assistant County Attorneys handle criminal, juvenile, civil and child protection cases in the district courts. They are licensed attorneys who benefit from Union membership with job security provisions, and wage progression. Judicial Downloads
