TEAMSTERS LOCAL 320 MEMBERSHIP BULLETIN NOTICE

From: Teamsters Local 320 Executive Board

LOCAL 320 IS ON THE MOVE!

Investing in Our Future. Building for Our Members.

As previously announced, Teamsters Local 320 is taking the next step toward securing a permanent home for Local 320! This initiative began with your feedback: members raised concerns about location, limited parking and accessibility at our current union hall. We listened and are taking action. Local 320 leadership brought together members from across our union to form a building search committee:

  • Shawn Williams — Business Agent & Committee Chairman
  • Tom Eilek — Forest Lake Schools
  • Laural O’Rourke — Board of Public Defense
  • Ed Reynoso — Retiree
  • Terri Chromey — Honeywell Aerospace
  • Sean Pitzer — ASF
  • Brian Bigham — South Washington County Schools

Following a comprehensive search across the Twin Cities, the Building Search Committee narrowed its recommendations down to two final properties. The Executive Board will soon review these options to consider a Letter of Intent to Purchase one of the sites, with any final purchase agreement remaining subject to membership approval.

The Search Process
Working alongside a commercial real estate broker, the committee evaluated 10 potential properties. Each site was carefully vetted based on critical criteria: cost, parking, security, public transit access, highway proximity, accessibility, and potential for future growth. After narrowing the field and conducting in-person tours, the committee completed its search and finalized its recommendations for the Executive Board.

Next Steps for Members
We are excited to share the committee's findings directly with you through a series of upcoming member meetings (virtual and in-person). During these sessions, we will present the proposed property, detail the factors that led to its selection, and outline the Letter of Intent to Purchase. We will also discuss necessary renovations and open the floor to answer any questions you have. This is a vital opportunity for our membership to fully understand the proposal and help shape the future of our union hall.

WHY BUY INSTEAD OF LEASE?

The Executive Board believes owning our own building is a prudent long-term investment in the future of Local 320 and its membership.

Our current Union Hall is outdated and in need of significant renovations. Local 320 does not own the building, it is leased from the Teamsters Joint Council 32 Building Corporation. As a member of the Building Corporation, Local 320 pays rent to the Building Corporation and is also responsible for its share of building updates and repairs. Our only potential financial benefit from membership in the Building Corporation would be a portion of the proceeds if the Building Corporation decides to sell. Our equity in the Building Corporation only applies if the building is sold while we are still tenants. In the meantime, we remain in a building that is frequently the topic of complaints from members with little to no options for resolution.

Long-term Advantages

Our goal is not simply to change locations. Our goal is to make a responsible investment that strengthens our union and serves our membership for generations to come. If we purchase a property, we have the opportunity to invest those same hard-earned union resources into an asset that builds equity specific to our Local, strengthens our financial future, and would benefit our members year after year. However, ownership also comes with responsibilities, including maintenance, taxes, insurance, and unexpected repairs. That is why the purchase price, renovation costs, and long-term financial impact must be carefully evaluated.

YOUR UNION. YOUR VOICE. YOUR DECISION.

In accordance with the International Constitution and Local Union Bylaws, members will have the opportunity to review the proposal, ask questions, and vote on whether Local 320 should move forward to purchase a property. Your participation matters, and your voice will help determine the future of our union home.

Please make every effort to attend one of the informational meetings, then participate in the Special Membership Meeting to vote on the proposal. This is an important decision about how Local 320 invests its resources and builds a stronger future for our members. Attend any of the following informational meetings to review the proposal, ask questions, and learn more.

BUILDING A STRONGER FUTURE TOGETHER

In the first year of this administration, Local 320 has delivered results and strengthened our union. We filed for and won two strikes, negotiated first contracts for two newly organized bargaining units (bringing nearly 75 new members into our Teamster family) and secured one of the strongest contracts our Honeywell sisters and brothers have seen in years. These are just a small sample of what we have accomplished in a short few months of our newly elected Executive Board and team. We are standing up to employers, holding them accountable, and proving that when we fight together, we win together.

We are building a stronger, more powerful Local 320 – one that fights for its members, invests in its future, and puts Teamster families first. From the bargaining table to the decisions that shape our union for generations to come, our mission remains the same: give our members a stronger voice, a stronger union, and a stronger future. Please attend an informational meeting, review the proposal, ask questions and be informed. Then join us during the Special Membership Meeting.

Make your voice heard and help shape the future of Local 320. OUR UNION. OUR INVESTMENT. OUR FUTURE.

IN SOLIDARITY,
